SPRING
by Yung-ro Byun
A low and quiet voice calls.
I go outdoors, ah, I go outdoors.
Milky, slumbrous clouds,
Heavy and slow,
Drift across the blue sky.
Ah, my inexplicable forlornness!
A low and quiet voice calls.
I go outdoors, ah, I go outdoors.
Like dim memories of past days,
Tremulous and invisible flower-breath
Is so fragrant.
Ah, my inexplicable heart-ache!
A low and quiet voice calls.
I go outdoors, ah, I go outdoors.
No trace of milky clouds
Or flower-breath;
Only the spring rain falls,
Fine as silver-threads,
Quiet as pensive care.
Ah, I am waiting in vain!
